Reiki is a fascinating subject, and we know so little about it that asking many questions to find out more becomes an inevitable part of the learning process. We at the Mansfield Reiki Association are happy to help! Please read below to find out answers to the most commonly asked questions, and for a link to the International Center for Reiki Training's FAQ page for more in-depth questions.

Reiki is performed by the practitioner gently placing their hands in specific positions on, or hovering over the clients body. These hand positions are strategically placed around the body's energy centers. The energies flow through the practitioners hands and to the areas of need on the client.
The experience of Reiki is unique to each individual. Some people feel warmth, or heat, coming from the practitioner's hands. Others may describe it as a pulsating feeling, almost as if you are holding your hand in front of a speaker with the volume turned up so that you can feel the sound waves coming out. Some say that they are enveloped in a profound sense of peace and relaxation, and a few people get so relaxed that they fall asleep! Even if you do not feel anything, that is okay, because the Reiki will work anyway. Usually, sensitivity to feeling the energies increases as you have more experience with receiving it, but remember, it is up to you to allow yourself to receive it!
Usually, people leave a Reiki treatment feeling light, refreshed, rested, and sleep like a baby that night - and for many nights after!
This is the most beautiful aspect of Reiki! Anyone can be given a Reiki attunement and learn to help others heal! There are many Reiki Masters available to teach it in almost any area of the country - including Julie!
Reiki is generally taught in three levels. At Level I the student learns to perform Reiki so that they can give a treatment to a client face-to-face.
Level II attunements allow the practitioner to perform Reiki from a distance. Level III, or the Master/Teacher level, provides training in how to teach Reiki to others and to pass attunements, although teaching Reiki is not required after receiving the Master level attunement.
A Reiki attunement is a special energetic process, which is performed by a Reiki Master (teacher), with the student of Reiki, in order to clear their energy blockages and raise their energy levels, so that they too can practice Reiki. Ideally, the student should have very detailed instruction in the concepts and history of Reiki, prior to receiving their attunement, and be given plenty of time to practice feeling the energies. One needs to receive this attunement in order to be able to do Reiki.
Reiki is an incredibly loving energy that can do no harm! Sometimes, as blockages are cleared, one may have what is referred to as a "healing crisis" following a treatment. This can come in the form of a headache, gassiness, or an upset stomach; however, it passes quickly (usually within a few hours or a day), and it is actually considered to be a VERY GOOD THING, because it is a sign that the body is releasing toxins and truly healing!
The other trait of a "healing crisis" which some people experience, is that old emotional baggage may come bubbling up, seemingly out of nowhere. This is also good, because it allows you the opportunity to truly resolve and release those issues, and doing so is easier because your energy is much more balanced.

Reiki.org also offers a fantastic article including ground-breaking information on HOW Reiki works with the human energy field to promote healing. The new technology being utilized to test this is called a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device, which is an incredibly sensitive magnetometer used to measure magnetic fields. These machines are in very few hospitals at this time. For more information here is a link to an article from Reiki News:
